BASCO, ILL. -- A Basco, Ill. soldier was laid to rest underneath a salute of national guardsmen this weekend.

Nathan Earls passed away Nov. 20 from cancer.

He became ill while serving in Iraq for the U.S. Army National Guard.

Members of the Iowa National Guard volunteered to give Earls a military funeral that the military would not give him due to his medical discharge.

A path of American flags paved the way from the service to the cemetery in Basco ... Nathan's home town.
