QUINCY, ILL. -- Paw Pals has served as a refuge for hundreds of pet owners in the Quincy area for the last 12 years. Next year will be its last.
Paw Pals will close its doors for good on May 1, 2013.
Founder and Executive Director Jane Holt said the decision came after much thought and discussion, and reviewing all possible options. Holt said her Paw Pals staff will "spend the remaining months going through the difficult task of closing down." This coincides with Holt's retirement, effective June 1, 2013.
"Paw Pals will continue to offer emergency vet care assistance and will operate the pet food pantry until May 1, 2013. If voluntarily offered by our supporters, we will accept cash donations until Dec. 31, 2012," Holt said.
Holt says she hopes other animal welfare organizations in the community will recognize the need for such an organization, like Paw Pals, and take its place.

Staff at Paw Pals will donate the remaining cash and belongings to other not-for-profit organizations with the similar mission.
