Schools aren't the only places affected by Thursday's snow storm. A number of area organizations are cancelling events as a precaution.

Illinois

The American Red Cross' 8th Annual Quincy 12 Hours of Giving Blood Drive will now start at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 21. It will still end at 7 p.m. 

QDance in Quincy is cancelling dress rehearsal Thursday night. Friday's recital is still happening. 

Hamilton Public Library closed at 2 p.m. Thursday and will reopen Friday.

The Western Illinois University-Macomb and the WIU-Quad Cities campuses will remain closed Friday, Dec. 21 due to the extreme winter weather conditions that struck the region today (Dec. 20). Only those employees designated as essential should report to work as usual. The University will observe winter break with holiday and administrative closure Monday, Dec. 24-Tuesday, Jan. 1. The WIU policy on limiting University operations because of emergency conditions is available in the Administrative Procedures Handbook, which can be viewed at wiu.edu/policies/emergency.php.

Missouri

Shooter’s Education is canceled tonight, Dec. 20, at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center, according to the Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department. The next class for Shooter’s Education is scheduled Jan. 3.

Paris Senior Center will be closed Friday.

Iowa

Siemens Energy in Fort Madison will close at 2 p.m. Second and third shifts are cancelled. Normal hours will resume Friday morning.

The Mt. Sterling Community Center YMCA will close at 5 p.m. Thursday and will reopen Friday.
