Stranded motorists in McDonough County prompted a need for snowmobiles to assist sheriff's deputies in their response.

Dan Kreps, Emergency Services and Disaster Agency Director of McDonough County stressed that no one should attempt to travel from municipalities to rural areas this evening. There is fear that some stranded motorists could run out of fuel as they continue to wait.

“People need to stay in town,” he said. “All of our deputies are getting stuck. It's just a disaster.”

Motorists are stranded on roadways throughout the county. Kreps said anyone with a snowmobile that might assist the Sheriff's Office in their rescue efforts can call 309-833-2323.
