FLORENCE, ILL. -- The Illinois Department of Transportation says steel fabrication work has started on parts that will be used to repair a bridge that spans the Illinois River between Scott and Pike counties.

We now know the cost break down of the Florence Bridge repairs.

G&G Steel has quoted sheave refurbishment and bearing fabrication at $280,916.00, Wireco's quote on new wire ropes came in at $126,077.12 and the Midwest Foundation Corporation quote on an Erection Contractor came in at $1,099,100.00.

The total cost of the project comes to $1,506,093.12.

A barge and crane are already in place as work begins just in time for the new year.

The bridge was closed earlier this summer after inspectors from the Illinois Department of Transportation found some problems with the lift span superstructure.

Repair of the bridge is expected to be completed by early spring 2013.
