JOPLIN, MO. (AP) -- The Missouri National Guard says it still has one soldier working in Joplin, 20 months after guard members responded to the devastating tornado that killed 161 people.

The guard says the remaining soldier is in Joplin as part of the state's Workforce Investment Board.

At one point after the May 2011 tornado, the guard had 377 personnel in Joplin providing security, working traffic checkpoints and helping establish a mobile medical unit. The mission later changed to helping oversee the federal debris removal program.

Last year, the guard assisted Missouri's Division of Workforce Development with a jobs program that included removing more Joplin debris and restoring public facilities and rights-of-way.
