BARRY, ILL. -- The Pike Sheriff's Department has arrested two Barry, Illinois men for cooking meth near an elementary school.

Deputies and officials with the West Central Illinois Drug Task Force served a search warrant in the 200 block of Tremont Street in Barry, Illinois Monday night.

Officials say they got the warrant after the Pike County Sheriff's Department tracked the purchase of pseudoephedrine pills in Hannibal, Mo. to a methamphetamine lab in a home. They immediately seized the active meth lab and called in the Illinois State Police Meth Response Team to dismantle the highly volatile lab.

Police arrested 57-year-old James A. Dolbeare and 28-year-old Chad A. Dolbeare of Barry for charges of unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, possession of meth manufacturing materials, possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of ammunition by a felon.

The lab was operating within 550 feet from the local grade school and high school.

Police seized numberous items during the search which included but was not limited to: liquid meth, Coleman fuel, ether, ammonia nitrate, lithium batteries, and numerous items used to manufacture the drug including glass ware and Tupperware.

Corporal Matt Frazier of the Pike County Sheriff's Department was quick to commend those involved in the investigation, "This particular lab was only 550 feet from the local grade school and high school. The environment officers went into this evening was highly volatile and dangerous. The lab was active, which makes the entry much more concerning for the neighbors safety and the officers. It was extremely important to dismantle this lab given its location. Our office did everything to ensure the safety of the community given the smell and waste produced from the cook. This particular case is why the State Meth Response Team is so important to the smaller law enforcement communities like ours."

The Dolbeares are in the Pike County Jail and are being held without bond pending court appearance.
