QUINCY, ILL. -- A group of Culver Stockton College students got a cold wake-up call Saturday morning while supporting a local shelter.
Members of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity held their annual Homeless Rally outside Hy-Vee on Broadway. It's a day-long tradition they've taken part in for almost 25 years.
They're spending the night in cardboard boxes and collecting clothes, canned goods and monetary donations for the Madonna House in Quincy. It's a shelter for homeless women and their children.
"It increases the attention people give to it, because it's so easy for us, as people, to not notice things, because everything fits in our little prescribed way everything works. So, when something breaks that normal, it draws people to it and makes it more noticeable," Ryan DeGraw, the fraternity president said.
The fraternity hopes to collect close to a thousand dollars before they pack up and leave at noon on Sunday.
"It gives us a chance to grow as a brotherhood but to also realize how really blessed we are," DeGraw said.
Area business like Panera, Hy-Vee and County Market donated food and supplies for the overnight fundraiser.
