Firefighters call for extra help to battle house fire in Keokuk

LEE COUNTY, IOWA -- A Keokuk family is safe after their house caught fire Sunday evening.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire at 1703 Bank St. With the help of some off-duty personnel.

Heavy smoke could be seen pouring out of the upstairs windows just after 5 p.m. Firefighters say the fire started in the upstairs bedroom.

The cause is still under investigation.

The upstairs received moderate fire damage, with smoke and water damage to both floors.

The Red Cross was on hand to provide overnight stay for the family.
