QUINCY, ILL. -- Ryan Hildebrand is an avid biker. He's been competing in races for years. What got him started? The Madison-Davis Bicycle Shop.

"My mom moved over here when I was in third grade and this was the closest place to hang out and have fun," Hildebrand said. "I just started coming down here and hang out here after school and I've kind of been here ever since."

Hildebrand is next in line to take over the bike shop, when current owner Greg Davis steps down.

Think about the one single thing you can introduce to your life, that would change your life style and improve your fitness and improve your mental acquity and you outlook on life," Davis said. "The one thing that would do all that? Cycling would fit the bill. There's just not a lot you can say about cycling that isn't positive."

Davis isn't the original owner but his story is similar to Hildebrand's.

"My father passed away when I was 13 and I was in Odie Madison's Boy Scout troop and someone in the troop suggested that I be invited down here to keep me out of trouble and give me something to do," Davis said. "That was in 1964 and I've been here ever since."

Odie Madison's father opened the bike shop in 1947. Davis became a partner in 1973 and took full ownership in 2011, when Madison passed away.

Now, Davis is getting ready to expand the shop to a bigger place that he hopes to pass down to Hildebrand and his family.

"I couldn't be prouder of him and the job that he does and he's got two young boys coming up and I said 'hey this is my chance to pass down a business that we can keep in the family and service the community.'"

"It's fun, it's what I love," Hildebrand said. "I was just a neighborhood kid that started coming down, we have no relation. He's just been like a dad."
