QUINCY, ILL. -- A rising number of senior citizens are spending their golden years on the clock.

The current economy and financial woes have caused many seniors to come out of retirement and go back to work. That's why staff at the Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center are holding a job fair for elders in the community.

"A lot of seniors are working for a number of reasons. One, because it's something to do and they can do some part-time work and pick up a few extra dollars. Some seniors are working in order to make ends meet in order to pay for medical care, or to keep their house. Other just want extra spending money," Todd Shackelford, with the West Central Area Agency on Aging said.

Senior citizens are invited to attend workshops on resume building and the digital age this Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. More than 22 businesses will be on hand to discuss potential employment with each senior.

"They have a fantastic work ethic. They are there on the job when the snow is flying. They are there on the job when you need them the most. They are very dependable. They have a great sense of responsibility. Even if it's a part-time job, or low wages, they have a huge sense of responsibility to that employer and the work that they do," Shackelford said.

The job fair will open up to the public from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All employers and job searchers welcome.
