Agreement with Kohl's will keep school supplied for now

QUINCY, IL. -- As we told you earlier this week, the closure of the Hostess brand and Wonder Bread created a real challenge for area schools.

Thanks to a helping hand from Hy-Vee, the Quincy Pubic School district was able to get its bread needs supplied for the first part of the week.

And thanks to another helping hand from Kohls Wholesalers, the district will have bread next week.

QPS Finance Manager Joel Murphy says, "Next week we're working with Kohl's in town here to get us bread in the short term. But it's something that we're going to have to go back out for bid if Interstate Brands aren't able to settle and start production again."

Because of the shortened school week, Murphy says this was the best time for this problem to happen.

Quincy is not alone in this, Murphy says that Jacksonville schools drove to Springfield to raid grocery store shelves.
