QUINCY, ILL. -- A Quincy attorney disbarred for stealing roughly $200,000 from his clients' accounts will not go to jail.
John Devin Cashman pleaded guilty to a charge of theft by deception over $500 dollars Monday in Adams County Court.
In exchange for his plea, Cashman was given a 24 month conditional release from jail. He was also fined $3,000 and must perform 500 hours of community service, the Adams County Clerk of Courts Office said.
Jerseyville Circuit Judge Eric Pistorius handed down Cashman's sentence.
In September, the Illinois Attorney Registration and Discipline Commission disbarred Cashman.
The ruling stated that Cashman engaged in misconduct including conversion of funds, offering evidence that he knew was false, fraud and other violations of the Illinois rules of professional conduct.
