HANNIBAL, MO -- A newly built flower garden outside the Community Supervision Center in Hannibal will help remind people in the criminal justice system of their goal of "No More Victims."

Staff and clients at the Missouri Probation and Parole office helped build the garden. It will serve as a memorial garden for victims and will be dedicated at 10 a.m. on April 25, as part of the National Crime Victims' Rights Week.

"Whenever we work with somebody on probation or parole, we want to keep foremost in our clients' minds the impact of their crime on victims," said Dan Conboy, administrator for District 3 of the Board of Probation and Parole.

Conboy says the board has been interested in doing some type of commemorative garden at the four-year-old facility for some time, but everything just seemed to come together now.

Avenues will hold a balloon release for the dedication ceremony and clients and staff of the Community Supervision Center will display pinwheels they purchased from the Child Center through Pinwheels for Prevention of Child Abuse.

Community members are invited to come by and plant flowers at the dedication ceremony. Conboy hopes that this garden will send a message to the entire community.

"Maybe we will have less victims if we have this memorial garden. People will think, 'well, okay, we'll do our part whether it's a community member or a probation or parolee, to try to reduce the number of victims," said Conboy.

The Community Supervision Center is located at 2002 Warren Buffet Drive.
