QUINCY, ILL. -- The crosswalks at Quincy schools will be a little bit safer thanks to new crossing guard paddles.

These new paddles feature blinking LED lights that are visible from a farther distance than traditional paddles.

The city bought the 18 signs using $100,000 in Safe Routes to School grant money provided through I-DOT.

What makes these paddles so good is that they much easier to see on days when visibility is low like stormy days or during heavy snowfall.

These kinds of blinker paddles have become standard issues for school crossing guards across the county.
