Many voters across the country will be away from their polling place on the big election day, Tuesday, November 6.

That means some are looking to vote early or by absentee ballot.

Here are some guidelines for doing just that:

Click here to find out where you can vote early in Illinois. Your county may have special guidelines.

Click here for information on absentee voting in Missouri. Missouri absentee voters have until Wednesday, October 31 at 5 p.m. to mail in or fax in their absentee ballot request and then they can vote by absentee in the office of the local election authority until 5 p.m. the night before the election.

Click here for information on absentee voting in Iowa. Iowa absentee voters must submit a ballot request form to the county auditor's office by 5 p.m. on Friday, November 2. Returned ballots must be postmarked by Monday, November 5 or earlier and be received in the county auditor's office no later than noon on the Monday following the election.

Adams County Illinois Clerk Georgia Volm says she expects to see well over 4,000 voters take advantage of the early voting process or vote absentee.

She said when early voting was first offered in Illinois back in 2006, only about 300 people came to her office to vote early. But since that first election, the early voting numbers have increased and this year there's more people voting early then in any other election.

"I'm very surprised, not only did they come in immediately, we usually have a day or two of being kind of slow, but they started coming in the day we opened our doors on October 22nd and it's been a steady stream since that day. So we've got a lot of early voters. We've got a lot of absentee ballots as well. So I'm surprised yes," Volm said.

Volm also said she expects voter turnout for next weeks election to be at about 70%.
