QUINCY, ILL. -- Ladies, it's a new year and what a better way to start it off then with a little pampering.

The Blessing Breast Center is hosting a spa day Thursday to help women achieve their healthy resolutions but this event is about more then relaxation.

"One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and we just need to take care of ourselves," Blessing Breast Center's manager, Lori Wilkey said.

The real idea behind the spa day is to remind women to get their annual mammogram.

"Women age 40 and every year after, American Cancer Society recommends they have an annual mammogram," Wilkey said. "Some women are fearful to come in and it's just helping them get past that fear. If we can entice them to come in and have some pampering done, then that just makes it better overall."

Enter the spa treatments. The free event will feature food demonstrations, manicures, DermaScan screenings, fitness consultations, raffles and goodie bags.

"If we can just help them when they're in the Breast Center if they're getting their mammogram we can also make sure they don't have any moles that are suspicious, help them get their body weight back in tact," Wilkey said. "Any of those things we can help to do, it's all about being healthy."

And ladies, that's what should come first.

"The earlier we get in and get our mammograms done the better the chance of survival," Wilkey said.

Because if you're out who's running the show at home? The American Cancer Society recommends yearly mammograms starting at age 40, clinical breast exams every three years for women in their 20s and 30s and self breast exams for women starting in their 20s.
