HANNIBAL, MO. -- The Hannibal City Council has a plan to appease everyone in its pesky pigeon problem.

Tuesday night, the city council accepted a proposal from Big River Pest Control to trap the pigeons for about $5500.

The company would then take them to an area pigeon breeder.

City Manager Jeff LaGarce said the decision is a win-win for everyone involved.

"It accomplished two things," he said. "It allows us to get rid of the pigeons, but at the same time it doesn't create an outcry. They're going to be shipped out of town live. The user needs them live. I don't know it's not going to require the pigeon to be killed, so that's good."

The Hannibal City Council also voted to advertise a proposal to sell the Murphy Motor building.

The city recently bought the property.

Since then, LaGarce says he's received countless calls from people who are interested in it.
