QUINCY, ILL. -- Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean you can't enjoy the outdoors.

The Quincy Park District and RiverSkate are teaming up this weekend to host a Winter Festival.

What can you expect at the festival? Pirates ... and princesses like Belle and Cinderella will all be out on the ice, but that's only the beginning of the festivities.

"We're going to have a kids carnival which will have fun stations and all kinds of activities for the kids to do from games to crafts to a silly winter hat contest, which I think is really popular this year," Quincy Park District's Marketing and Recreation Supervisor, Jessica Marie Cate said. "We'll also have vendors and sweet treats and just all kinds of fun stuff."

A little something for everyone in the family, the exact idea the Quincy Park District and River Skate were going for.

"We just want to have family activities and make it affordable or free," Quincy Park District's Director of Program Services, Mike Bruns said. "This one won't really cost them anything so they can come down and do those activities."

"We just thought it would be a really neat thing to get families out here, having a good time," River Skate owner, Marion Dye said. "Just introduce people to ice skating. It's a great opportunity for them to have an excuse to come out."

Because staying cooped up inside is something most of us do during the winter months.

"There's not as much winter recreation to do," Cate said. "We are lucky with River Skate. That's something new this year so we wanted to really highlight that, work with them on doing something that was recreational but outside and during the winter."

And a festival fits those requirements.

The Winter Festival will be held Saturday at Clat Adams Park from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
