PALMYRA, MO. -- Fixing Highway 61 near Palmyra has become an ongoing project for Missouri Department of Transportation.

MoDOT worked over the summer to fix some dangerous intersections along the highway.

The city of Palmyra created a citizens group last year to help make the dangerous intersections safer.

The group presented problems they've noticed while merging onto Highway 61 to MoDOT.

They focused on finding a way to prevent accidents from wet pavement and confusion about which lane to turn in.

Brian Untiedt with MoDOT Traffic Operations says this is only the beginning of potential changes.

MoDOT plans to work more with the city of Palmyra to make the highway even safer.
