MACOMB, ILL. -- A candidate running for Macomb's 2nd Ward alderman says February's general election results have raised serious questions about the city's election process.
Steven Wailand received 17 votes on February 26th compared to incumbent Kay Hill's 16 votes -- voter turnout was light because of bad weather.
Election officials have not declared Wailand the winner.
They say city code requires the candidate to win using a "50 percent + 1 rule."
If that doesn't happen, then the two candidates must appear on the ballot in a supplementary election in April.
Wailand is disputing the election officials' decision, saying that he should be declared the winner.
