QUINCY, ILL. -- Updated 2:30a.m. on Oct. 18, 2011: 

Friends and neighbors turned out early this morning to welcome home a wounded warrior.

The caravan carrying Specialist Daniel Bowe pulled into his neighborhood around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Dozens were on hand to cheer and give him a hero's welcome home.

Bowe was hurt during an insurgent attack in Afghanistan as he and members of his team tried to rescue another wounded soldier.

Since the accident in August, he's been in Germany recovering from a traumatic brain injury along with a dislocated shoulder, fractures and torn ligaments.

Now Bowe is in Quincy for some R and R.

But this heartfelt welcome is something Bowe didn't expect.

Since Bowe arrived home in the middle of the night, the Patriot Guard will present an official homecoming celebration tonight at 6:30 p.m.

That celebration will take place at the Bowe home at 30th and Wind Rush, which is off of 30th and Harrison.

Updated 7 p.m. on Oct. 17, 2011: The Patriot Guard is expected to give Daniel Bowe a formal homecoming Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at his parents' home at 30th and Wind Rush, which is located near 30th and Harrison in Quincy. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Update: Monday, hundreds of people are expected to line the streets of south Quincy to welcome home a wounded soldier.

Daniel Bowe was serving in Afghanistan as a solider in the army when he was wounded during a helicopter rescue operation of another wounded soldier. Now, he's returning home for about two weeks.

You're asked to bring your flags and fly them high at 36th Street and Harrison as Bowe and his Patriot Guard supporters roll into town.

Their expected arrival time continues to change as he makes his way from Washington D.C. to St. Louis, but we'll continue to update you throughout the day.

**Bowe's flight out of Germany had problems which delayed his connecting flights in the U.S. He may not be arriving in St. Louis until 11:30 Monday night and then driving to Quincy. He should have some type of flag escort, but due to weather conditions, there might not be a Patriot Guard escort.**

Tuesday also happens to be Bowe's 21st birthday. It's a homecoming no one is willing to miss.

"We picked up his brother at ISU so he could be with us," said Susan Bowe, Bowe's mother .

"He's been gone for a while, and we're pretty close, so it's been tough to have him away for 8 months, especially after his injury," said Bowe's brother Tom Bowe. "Honestly, I just want to stay at home and relax with him and hear his stories, because he always has great stories."

Bowe won't be the only one with a story to tell. His family and friends have watched a whole community come together in support of what he's done for our country.

"The stores had heard about this and Lowes, Home Depot and Farm and Home Supply all donated flags for this occasion. It's avery good thing we're doing here tonight," said Garold Shoemaker, a family friend and Patriot Guard rider.

"It's unfortunate that he's not going to get to see the homecoming, but the main thing is, he's coming home," said Matt Courtney with the Patriot Guard.

"He's coming home. That is the bottom line and it's going to be a happy homecoming," said Susan Bowe.
