QUINCY -- Free rides start on the Quincy Transit System this Friday, but there are rules.
The free rides are for people with disabilities who also qualify for the state's circuit breaker program.
That program helps seniors and those with disabilities with taxes and prescription drug costs.
Quincy Transit Authority Director John Ohnemus says about 500 people in Quincy would qualify.
If you think you qualify, you need to contact the Quincy Transit Authoriy at 228-4550 and get a special pass.
That pass is also good in other Illinois cities that have transit systems.
As far as cost to the city, that's still in question.
"It's hard to say total cost. I know we have determined how many people would be eligible on the circuit breaker program with a disability. Not all of them currently use our Quincy Transit buses. We'll determine that when we get into the program," says Mayor Spring.
The city also gets money from the state for the transit program.
Mayor Spring tells KHQA he's confident the operational budget of the city should cover the cost.
