More than 1,700 jobs lost in September
More residents in the Tri-States will have to look for a job this holiday season.
That's because the Illinois unemployed rate jumped.
According to the Illinois Department of Employment Security, Adams County has seen almost a 1 and a half percent increase in the last year.
This time last year, there were more than 36,000 jobs available. That's down to 35,000 jobs this year. Despite the significant loss in Adams County, other's such as Hancock County really took a hit. We checked in with Manpower, an employment agency in Quincy.
The branch manager, Erica Anders tells KHQA she's seen a steady increase of applicants in the past two weeks.
Q: What types of jobs are they wanting? "They're wanting more welder type positions. Machine operators, we have a lot of administrative and accounting positions, also that we're trying to fill," Anders said.
Anders says those jobs are hard to fill, because of lack of experience. Other states report some good news. Iowa has seen its unemployment rate drop in the last month. Missouri also fell slightly from an 18 year high in August.
