EDINA, MO (AP) -- About two dozen rail cars hauling corn have derailed in northeast Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident happened about 7:20 a.m. Friday north of Edina.

Steve Forsberg, spokesman for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, says there may be as many as three dozen cars involved and that both main tracks are blocked. He says the train was headed west out of Illinois.

Sgt. Brent Bernhard of the patrol says no injuries were reported, but that a county road in the area is closed for about a 10-mile stretch.

It's unclear why the rail cars derailed. Crews from BNSF are en route to investigate and assist with the cleanup.
