Marion County Sheriff's makes sure sex offenders abide by the rules
MARION COUNTY, MO -- An area sheriff's department did its part to help keep your child safe.
Authorities with the Marion County Sheriff's Office went around knocking on registered sex offender's doors to make sure they complied with a new Missouri law.
It requires them to remain inside their homes from 5 to 10:30 p.m. on this Halloween, unless they need to work or have a medical emergency.
They must keep their outside lights off; post a sign telling trick-or-treaters no candy is available; *and* avoid Halloween-related contact with children.
KHQA's Rajah Maples rode around with Sgt. Regina Webb Halloween night.
"It's going very well. So far, a majority of our registered sex offenders have been compliant," says Webb.
There was a little bit of confusion about the new law throughout the state.
That's because a federal judge said earlier this week that two of four provisions in the law could not be enforced this Halloween.
But a U.S. Court of Appeals issued a one-sentence stay just days later.
