Tree planted for the members of Quuncy's 1844th unit

QUINCY, IL -- As of Saturday, there are 81 days and counting...that's the number of days remaining until Quincy's National Guard unit, the 1844th will return home from Iraq.

Saturday afternoon, a Hard Maple Red Leaf tree was planted at the Illinois Veterans' Home in Quincy. The tree was planted in honor of the 1844th, and other veteran's who served our country. A good sized crowd, including family and friends of the 1844th unit showed their support, and just can't wait for their loved ones to come home.

"Right now, it's really hard. I pray everyday that everything's going to be ok and I look forward to them coming home safe," said mother Benita Boone, who has a son overseas.

The unit is expected to come home at the end of January, 2009.
