Higbee school built in 1908

PITTSFIELD, IL -- About 50 community members in Pittsfield showed their support to save a historic school.

This is a photo of the Higbee school. It was built in 1908, and served as the high school until 1958 and as the junior high until 1996. Since then, the building changed owners several times. It now sits abandoned and in poor condition.

That's why area residents want to save the building. Higbee properties bought the building and plan to use it as a bed and breakfast. The group also has plans to host banquet facilities and add specialty shops.

The Multi-million dollar project is expected to be complete in about three years.  It will take 3 phases. For more information on the project, including how you can help, visit the www.higbeeschool.org
