OVERLAND PARK, KAN. (AP) -- Sprint Nextel has announced plans to cut more jobs after reporting the loss of an additional 1.3 million customers and $326 million.

Sprint says it's offering voluntary buyout packages to an unspecified number of its 57,000 workers, including 12,000 of them based in the Kansas City area.

The company says employees have until Dec. 3 to apply for the voluntary buyout.

Sprint shares have plummeted 42 percent since Friday, when the telecom giant reported third-quarter finances and a forecast of pressured profits for the rest of the year. The stock closed Wednesday at $1.95, down 58 cents.
