The Illinois National Guard is gearing up for the largest overseas deployment of the state's citizen soldiers since World War II.

More than 2,900 soldiers from 30 units across Illinois form the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

They have been training at Fort Bragg, NC for the past month.  They are set to deploy the final weeks of November and the beginning of December for a 10 month tour of duty in Afghanistan.

We talked with several soldiers who wanted to send messages home.

KHQA's Melissa Shriver was in Fort Bragg, North Carolina Thursday.  She'll have more on the mission Monday.
