Could be saved from the wrecking ball

FT. MADISON, IA -- Two downtown buildings in Ft. Madison could be saved from the wrecking ball.

You'll remember we told you last month that buildings at 813 and 815 Avenue G were going to be demolished because they were infested with rats and mold. The owner, Kwok Wong, abandoned the building several years ago, leaving the city with no choice. Now, historic preservationists want to save the buildings because they're part of the historic downtown district.

The group wants the owner to hand over the property. He'll need to do it for free, or for a small fee. The historic preservationists plan to discuss the matter with the city in a few weeks.
