HANNIBAL, MO -- Hannibal Police are still searching for a suspect wanted for the neglect and abuse of 37 animals.

A joint investigation led police to 2103 Hope Street late Wednesday night.

They were initially called to a report of neglected dogs in the backyard.

But after officers discovered a dead dog that was decaying, they got a search warrant for the property.

In all, authorities seized 9 dogs mostly boxers, rotweilers, or boxer mix, 8 rabbits, 8 exotic birds, 7 rodents, 1 hedgehog, and 4 snakes.

All the animals are currently being housed at the Northeast Missouri Humane Society in Hannibal.

They are said to be in good condition, and will remain there, pending any charges filed in the Hannibal Municipal Court.

Richard Shannon, 45, the owner of the home is still at large.

He faces 25 offenses; including 10 counts no city dog license, 9 counts animal neglect, 4 counts of a dangerous animal, 1 count of animal abuse, and 1 count excessive number of animals.

Shannon is described as a 6 ft, white male, 150 lbs, with brown hair.
