$417,000 bill
HANNIBAL -- The Hannibal Board of Public Works owes Ameren 417 thousand dollars.
The reason, Ameren says is because of a billing error.
KHQA spoke to Don Willis, the General Manager of the B-P-W this afternoon.
He says he first heard of the problem in September.
His first response was for Ameren to prove the mistake.
It took a little time, but Ameren did prove it had been under charging Hannibal and six other cities, including Kahoka for about 19 months.
Ameren gave the cities four months to pay up.
Hannibal has already made two payments.
"It won't affect customers any. We will be able to handle it by cutting some jobs out and delaying jobs," says Don Willis, the General Manager of BPW.
To clairfy, Willis is not talking about cutting employment.
He told us he's had to cut some projects out of this year's budget.
That includes a fiber optic project that would link all of the substations and the water and sewer plants together.
He also told me two people retired, and he won't be able to replace those positions until the fiscal year ends in June.
