DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa's governor says he has received a suspicious letter that appears similar to others sent to government offices around the country.

Gov. Chet Culver's office says it received the letter Friday and that the matter was being investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Iowa Department of Public Safety.

All questions were being referred to the FBI.

At least nine states and the U.S. Virgin Islands have reported receiving similar letters. Test indicate powder found in Florida, Georgia, Kansas, North Dakota and Utah isn't harmful. A letter in the Virgin Islands contained corn starch.
