HANNIBAL, MO. -- It was an extra chilly Tuesday night for some Hannibal residents.

Hundreds of Hannibal homes were without power for about 2 hours Tuesday evening after a vehicle crash on Route MM right in front of the American Legion Hall.

It happened at around 5:45 p.m.

The Hannibal Police Department told KHQA a vehicle slid off the road and ran into a utility pole.

According to Board of Public Works Assistant Line Superintendent Ray Zumwalt. the power outage affected a couple hundred homes on the northwest side of town, including a nursing home and Hannibal's Super Walmart.

KHQA's Rajah Maples spoke with one resident Tuesday night whose house got down to 59 degrees after about 2 hours without power.

Luckily for him, his power came back on before the temperature dropped even lower.

A sergeant with the Hannibal Police Department wants to remind drivers to slow down and use extra caution when driving on area roads in this kind of weather.
