CHICAGO (AP) -- Officials say President-elect Barack Obama has settled on California Congresswoman Hilda Solis for labor secretary and former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk for U.S. trade representative.
And he's ready to introduce Illinois GOP Congressman Ray LaHood as transportation secretary at a news conference later Friday.
Solis, the daughter of Mexican and Nicaraguan immigrants, has focused on immigration and environment issues while in the House. She'd be the third Hispanic in the Obama Cabinet.
Kirk, the first black elected Dallas mayor, is a partner in a powerhouse Texas law and lobbying firm.
LaHood, who is leaving the House after 14 years, would be the second Republican in Obama's Cabinet. The president-elect is filling out his Cabinet ahead of leaving Saturday for a holiday vacation in his native Hawaii.
