American Ordinance lays off 62 employees

MIDDLETOWN, IA -- Another company in the Tri-States slashed jobs this week.  The Hawk Eye reports that American Ordinance in Middletown, Iowa laid off 62 employees Thursday, and expects to layoff another 14 in January.

The company makes ammunition products, and provides security and fire protection services.

The deputy plant director, Doug Hanify, says the layoff's were a part of those employees' contracts, and has nothing to do with a recent contract extension.

In October, the Army gave American Ordinance a contract to operate and maintain its ammunition plant in Milan, Tennessee for another ten years.

The pant director says if things improve, hopefully, those jobs will be brought back.
