The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign ended one week ago
MACOMB, IL -- The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign ended one week ago and it seems counties across the Tri-States came in well under their goals.
KHQA talked with Captain Owen Thompson of the Macomb Salvation Army about their campaign.
Last year the Kettle Campaign for McDonough County reached $58,000 which was still $,2,000 short of their goal.
Their goal stayed at $60,000 again this year, but the donations feel significantly.
To this day they have $50,000 from the Red Kettles.
But Thompson says the decrease in donations is due to the 4 extra days included in last years campaign.
"My reaction is still one of hope and positive," said Thompson, "becuase every day, as we countled the kettles and compared it with last year, we were at or above what it was last year. So it shows people were giving. Even with the hard economic times, they were still giving for others"
There is still time to donate to the Red Kettle Campaign.
Thompson says people are still sending checks to the Salvation Army intended for the campaign.
He told KHQA they will still be offering care to anyone who needs it, despite the drop in donations.
We tried to check in with some other area cities to see how their campaign went.
The only one we could get in contact with was Quincy.
Their goal was $310,000 and they have gathered just over $298,300.
