DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- A former Hooters waitress who claims she was fired from her job because she had bruises on her face after a domestic assault has been awarded unemployment benefits.

Records show that Sara Dye and her managers at the Davenport restaurant agreed she should take a few weeks off because the bruises would have been visible outside her revealing Hooters uniform, but Dyes says she was later fired.

Company officials say Dye abandoned the job, but added that the bruises left Dye unable to maintain the glamorous appearance needed to work as a Hooters girl.

Judge Teresa Hillary found that Dye's inability to work because of bruises didn't amount to workplace misconduct and awarded her the jobless benefits.
