Judge issues decision on Friday
WEST BURLINGTON, IOWA -- No business in the state has lost its liquor license for failing to comply with Iowa's Smokefree Air Act, but that could change in 2009.
KHQA's Rajah Maples investigated the issue for this KHQA FactFinder Report. This is what she found.
According to the state's Alcoholic Beverages Division, only two businesses in the state, including one in our area, are on the verge of losing their liquor licenses.
In fact, an administrative law judge handed down a decision last Friday, suspending liquor licenses for Otis Campbell's Bar & Grill in West Burlington and another bar in Wilton, Iowa.
Rajah spoke with Lynn Walding, administrator of the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division, this afternoon for the very latest.
He told her the owner of Otis Campbell's Bar & Grill has 30 days to appeal the judge's decision from the date of receipt.
If it's not appealed, the suspension would begin February 9th.
Walding told us the suspension would last 30 days or longer if the owner of Otis Campbell's Bar & Grill continues to fail to comply with Iowa's Smokefree Air Act.
By the way, the judge's decision comes four months after the Iowa Department of Public Safety first filed a complaint.
