DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Democratic legislative leaders say a budget crunch and demands of funding flood recovery efforts will likely draw most attention during the upcoming legislative session.
Speaking Wednesday at a news conference, the Democrats who run the House and Senate also expressed doubt that proposals to expand gambling in Iowa would get far this session.
Apart from the budget, Senate Majority Leader Michael Gronstal says attention will be focused on flood recovery. Gronstal, of Council Bluffs, noted that those recovery efforts likely would last for five to 10 years given the huge list of projects after last summer's flooding.
