MUSCATINE, IOWA (AP) -- HNI Corp. has eliminated more jobs at its Muscatine plant because of sluggish office furniture sales.

The Muscatine-based company made the announcement on Thursday, but Vice President Gary Carlson wouldn't disclose how many jobs were lost.

He says the company chose not to release the number because of the difficulty in making sure it is accurate. He says the company is constantly balancing its employment level with orders.

HNI employs about 4,000 people in Muscatine.

The company announced in October it would lay off up to 200 Muscatine employees.

Carlson says some employees were asked to resign while others were laid off.

HNI announced in October that its earnings had fallen 55 percent in the first three quarters of its fiscal year.
