BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- The Midwest is the target of the latest winter storm swirling across the country. And it's going to be really cold.

There are wind chill warnings in Wisconsin, South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota, where temperatures could plummet to 35 below zero in some places.

Airlines have canceled hundreds of flights at Chicago's two airports.

The weather service is forecasting up to 11 inches of new snow in Detroit by Thursday and says temperatures will rapidly plunge into the single digits Tuesday.

Gusty winds will blow fresh snow around and make it tough for drivers to find the road. A department of transportation spokeswoman in Minnesota says "it's like a sea of whiteness." She adds: "When the white fluffy stuff starts to blow, it's not pretty."
