WASHINGTON (AP) -- President-elect Barack Obama's pick for agriculture secretary, Tom Vilsack, is expected to face an agreeable group of senators as he takes questions from the Senate Agriculture Committee.
The farm-friendly panel has had few qualms with the former Iowa governor. The Democratic chairman of the panel is Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin, one of Vilsack's biggest supporters.
Vilsack's confirmation hearing is set for Wednesday.
Vilsack didn't focus heavily on agricultural issues as governor, but biotechnology and ethanol.
One of his first priorities as secretary will be putting a $290 billion farm bill into place.
President George Bush vetoed the bill as wasteful and too costly. Congress overrode him to enact it.
