SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - A government watchdog group today sued the Blagojevich administration to get copies of subpoenas federal prosecutors issued in an influence-peddling investigation.
The Better Government Association filed a lawsuit in Sangamon County Circuit Court after aides to Gov. Rod Blagojevich denied the BGA's requests under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
The administration says federal investigators asked that the subpoenas be kept secret.
But Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office ruled in October that the documents should be made public.
Blagojevich acknowledged in fall 2005 that his office and the departments of Children and Family Services, Transportation and Corrections received subpoenas over state-job hiring practices. But then he said he would no longer talk about them.
