Five Illinois National Guardsmen with the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat team are in stable condition after being injured in a suicide bomb attack in Kabul, Afghanistan last week.
We know the soldiers are from Chicago, Peoria, Robbins Anawan and Prairie City but their names have not been released. Prairie City is in McDonough County.
Illinois National Guard spokesman Maj. Brad Leighton says two of the soldiers have been flown from Bagram to a German medical center.
He says two are being treated a U.S. military hospital in Bagram and another is being treated at Camp Phoenix.
You'll remember we visited with members of the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team in November at Fort Bragg, NC as they prepared for deployment.
The attack took place last week on a heavily guarded road between the German Embassy and a U.S. military base where soldiers train Afghan police and army members.
