CLEAR LAKE, IOWA (AP) -- The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake is being honored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The ballroom where Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson played their final concert is being designated as a rock and roll landmark. The venue will hold a ceremony next Wednesday to kick off a week of events honoring Holly, Valens and Richardson.
They died in a plane crash on February 2, 1959 after playing that final show.
The Surf Ballroom will join eight other sites the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has currently selected as landmarks.
