QUINCY, IL -- An area college has a plan to help displaced workers better themselves...and ultimately economic development.

The college has received an $805,000 U.S. Department of Labor grant to create a regional manufacturing training center.

John Wood trustees also recently approved a plan to offer deferred tuition to displaced workers.

It calls for partnerships between local industries and the college....with the company agreeing to sponsor a displaced worker.

President Thomas Klincar says his staff is continuing to talk with local industries about participating.

We checked in with another area college to find out if it's doing anything in light of the recent economy.

Moberly Area Community College told us that if a worker lives out of the college's district but works in the district, he or she can get a waiver to pay in-district tuition to help improve their work skills.
