No need to restrict Illinois stimulus money
(AP) -- U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin says Illinois probably won't get any money from the federal economic stimulus package until Gov. Rod Blagojevich is gone from office.
Durbin said Sunday, the $825 billion plan floated by President Barack Obama likely doesn't need language barring Blagojevich from touching any of Illinois' share. He says the impeached governor likely will be removed from office before Obama signs the law.
Republican Rep. Mark Kirk of Illinois added a provision last week that would prevent the impeached governor from having say over how the money's spent. Kirk says Illinois could get $50 billion from the stimulus proposal.
The Illinois House impeached Blagojevich earlier this month on charges of political corruption and mismanagement. A Senate trial over whether to oust him begins Monday.
