HANNIBAL, MO -- MoDOT Director Pete Rahn is speaking publicly about the department's stance on seat belt legislation, the economic stimulus package, and transportation needs for the state. He will be in Hannibal on Thursday, February 5 from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. in downtown Hannibal at the Mark Twain Ice n Coal studio/restaurant at the corner of Broadway and Main.
The event is open to the public and will feature a skit by Hannibal ambassadors Tom and Becky, sharing the importance of wearing a seat belt. The Hannibal Chamber of Commerce is co-sponsoring the event.
As director of MoDOT, Rahn oversees more than 6,000 employees who are responsible for providing a world class transportation experience that delights its customers and supports a prosperous Missouri. MoDOT operations include 32,000 miles of highways and the state support of aviation, rail, transit, and water ports. Rahn assumed his position in September 2004.
At the national level, Rahn is immediate past president of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and Chair, Standing Committee on Performance Management, as well as a member of its board of directors. He also serves on the executive committee of the Transportation Research Board.
